Keyword Research

Keyword Research is one of the most important aspects of search engine marketing (position marketing).  We feel that it is very important to think deeply about your target market and not only what they would search on to find you, but what other things they are thinking about.  This is one of the areas that we spend the most time talking with clients about.

Here are some resources that may help you...

Wordtracker Free Keywords - Before spending money on Wordtracker (see below), try the free version here.

Google Trends - Shows the relative interest in a search term.  Enter multiple terms separated by commas to compare.  There's no actual numbers here, just relative interest over time.

Yahoo Keyword Selector Tool - Free tool to show you what people are searching on.  After using dozens of tools, this is still one of our favorites.

Yahoo View Bids Tool - This one will show you what price others are bidding for specific words on Yahoo Search Marketing.

Wordtracker - The long-reigning king of keyword research.  Still a good deal at about $7 for a day.

Keyword Discovery - Similar to WordTracker.  They seem to have a lot more data somehow.

Keyword Research Tool - This will give you results from Wordtracker and Overture on the same page.

Keyword Combinations Tool - Another Hippo favorite that combines lists of words to make many phrases.  Very valuable.

Keyword Combination Ideas - Here is a pdf file I made to help you think of keyword combinations.

Keyword Tools e-book - Free pdf book that reviews other options, especially for those using AdSense.
